The 4Cs in Education – Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration & Communication

DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING CONTENT

“The 4Cs in Education” is an intensive, practical and forward-looking masterclass designed to empower educators with the pedagogical tools required to embed the four core competences of 21st-century education—Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication—into everyday teaching practice. These skills are globally recognised as essential for preparing learners to succeed in modern societies, dynamic workplaces, and rapidly evolving digital environments.

The course translates the 4Cs into real, actionable classroom methods that educators can apply immediately, regardless of subject area. Participants engage in hands-on workshops, creative design tasks, problem-solving challenges, collaborative learning activities, and innovation labs that model how the 4Cs can transform teaching and learning.

Through structured frameworks, practical templates, classroom scenarios, and cross-curricular examples, teachers learn how to design lessons that:
• spark imaginative thinking,
• encourage deep questioning and inquiry,
• promote effective group work, and
• strengthen communication skills in all forms (oral, written, visual, digital).

Accessible to teachers with any level of experience, this course bridges theory and practice by providing step-by-step strategies, easy-to-implement activities, and classroom-ready tools that enhance both learner engagement and academic achievement.

Main Aims

Participants will:
• Understand the relevance of 21st-century competencies in modern European education
• Explore practical methods to strengthen creativity and innovation in the classroom
• Apply strategies for building students’ critical thinking and inquiry skills
• Enhance collaborative learning through structured teamwork and project-based approaches
• Improve communication strategies for clear expression, active listening and meaningful dialogue
• Design integrated activities that combine all 4Cs for deeper, richer learning experiences
• Implement the 4Cs effectively within project-based, inquiry-based and blended-learning contexts
• Use appropriate tools to assess the development of 21st-century skills

Why this course?

The 4Cs—Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication—form the cornerstone of modern pedagogy and are central to the European Key Competences Framework and Erasmus+ priorities for innovation and inclusion.

Educators across Europe increasingly need to adapt lessons to foster problem-solving, creativity, teamwork and communication—skills that help learners navigate complex situations, think independently, and collaborate effectively in diverse environments.

This course provides teachers with the confidence, knowledge and inspiration to modernise their practice and create learning environments where students are active, engaged, curious and empowered. It is particularly beneficial for educators involved in:
• Erasmus+ projects,
• interdisciplinary teaching,
• active learning approaches,
• digital innovation,
• inclusive education, and
• school modernisation initiatives.

Participants leave with a comprehensive toolkit for embedding the 4Cs consistently and effectively into their curriculum.

Who to attend?

This masterclass is ideal for:
Primary, secondary and VET teachers of any discipline
School leaders, department heads and innovation coordinators
Teachers involved in Erasmus+ projects, eTwinning or PBL (Project-Based Learning)
Special needs and inclusion educators seeking strategies to promote engagement and thinking skills
Educators implementing cross-curricular or inquiry-based approaches
• Anyone seeking to modernise teaching practice, increase student motivation, and integrate future-ready skills

METHODOLOGY OF THE COURSE – ADDED VALUE

The course methodology will ensure the active involvement of the participants in all phases, that is, prior, during and after the delivery of the course. More specifically, upon confirmation that the course will take place, the participants will receive preparatory material (if needed), which will cover all important concepts to be presented during the delivery of the course. The participants will have the opportunity to exchange feedback with the organiser of the course, ShipCon, and the trainer as well as to request any clarification related to the content of the course.

The methodology of the training is based on a combination of three important elements:

  • Provision of knowledge required (theory)
  • Use of training tools, such as case studies, videos, games, animations & exercises (practice – hands on experience)
  • Feedback/reflection (review)

During the delivery of the course, the participants will receive hard copy material, which will cover the content to be presented in all five (5) days of the seminar. The material will be presented in a form of Power Point (PPT) presentations, videos & animations. Moreover, the active involvement and hands on experience of the participants will be secured through various training tools, such as case studies, worksheets, scenarios & exercises. These training tools are necessary to ensure that the theoretical knowledge gained by the participants can be used in real life scenarios; an important aspect & added value for any training course.

At the final day of the course, the participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the information received and the experience gained in the specific field of study. Moreover, the participants and their institutions will be encouraged to be members of ShipCon ‘Network of Excellence’, an international hub and forum for entrepreneurs & innovators to exchange ideas, novel concepts/approaches & best practices in the area of environment and education.
